Morphology of objects nano in their size is termed as nano rod in the field of nanotechnology. The measurement of these nano rods is of the dimensions ranging from 1 to even 100mm. As a therapeutical mode of usage in treating difficult diseases like cancer nano rod are used. These rods are used as motifs at the target area of the disease and ingested and when the IR light is thrown on the affected area the tumour cells using the nano rods heats up the local cells thus destroying the cancer affected cells and tissues. However, the healthy cells of the human body are kept intact and only harmful cells get destroyed. As per various scientist and research analysts the nano rods are there since 15 or more years but their exposure has been just limited at a laboratorial stage. The primary challenge now is to scale them up and out them into real practical usage. The results found by certain tests and experiments predict an unexplored area in solar cell sector.
 

Solar module made from nanorod nano material, the first of its kind

 
One of the topmost global concerns is securing energy resources in the world. This very concern has become the reason why scientists and researchers are continuously carrying out studies and experiments to find out renewable energy sources in the most cost effective manners. One such big invention is Solar cells. They transform sunlight into electricity and are a very cheap alternative to electrical energy. Let us understand the various points that led to the creation of solar module from nano rod.

During the year 2009, the first reports regarding development of solar cells of perovskite nature came out. As per scientists it is a possibility to create highly efficient photovoltaic cells which are cost effective in nature and their processing method is relatively easier. However experiments are still going on to find out how stable they are.

The perovskite type of solar cells showed a good amount of shelf life. When the structuring of photoelectrode was made in a nanoscale it showed improved stability in the material. Three kinds of layers were investigated transporting electrons. Out of them the one using nano rod proved to be the best.

The nano rods based devices maintained their original values of efficiencies and also gave 2500 hours of improved shelf life.

Two devices were compared. One which used a traditional nano particle of TiO2 showed 60% of what it performs originally. Whereas another plane device using a TiO2 layer shows 5% lower than its original performance. Both these measurements were taken under same environmental conditions.

A chemical test or analysis was further made on these devices. It gave a clue that the weird nano rod particles formed when the stage of the perovskite was stable is because of their inbuilt stable nature and macroporous characteristics.
 

A brief way to show how nano rods are synthesized commonly

 
Gold nanorods – This is so far the most commonly used method where gold nanoparticles capped with citrate serves as a seed and added to bulk growth of HAuCl4. By reducing the HAuCl4 with the help of ascorbic acid and CTAB or cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and ions of silver nano rods of long size can be obtained.

Cation exchange – Although traditional this does seem to be promising method. These are favourable kinetically and also conserve the shape of the nano rod on synthesis.
